Heritage Station Museum
Heritage Station Museum: A Journey Through Time
Originally built in 1905 by the Wadley and Mt. Vernon Railroad, the historic train depot in Douglas, GA, has long been a symbol of the city’s rich rail heritage. In 1907, the Georgia and Florida Railroad established its presence in Douglas, becoming a major employer and economic driver for the next 60 years.
Though passenger services ended in 1949, and the depot closed its doors entirely by the mid-1980s, the story didn’t end there. In 1999, thanks to the dedication of Georgia and Florida Railway employees, the Friends of the Museum, and the City of Douglas, the depot was beautifully restored and reborn as the Heritage Station Museum.
Today, it stands as a tribute to Douglas’s railroad legacy—preserving the past while educating and inspiring future generations.
So, come ride the rails of Coffee County’s rich history at Heritage Station Museum! The museum features an array of permanent collections including military, agricultural, African-American, and local business exhibits. The museum also boasts a unique collection of train memorabilia and highlights Douglas’ connection with the railroad industry.
