[ARCHIVED] CITY OF DOUGLAS TO CELEBRATE GREAT AMERICAN CLEANUP & JUNK FREE WEEK

The City of Douglas would like to invite citizens of Douglas to participate in our cleanup days!!! The Great American Cleanup will be Saturday, April 18 and Spring Junk Free Week is April 20–25th, 2015.

The Great American Cleanup will be observed on Saturday, April 18, 2014 from 8:00am-1:00pm. This year, cleanup will focus on our neighborhood parks. Individuals, churches, clubs and organizations are invited sign up to participate and earn community service hours. Participants should arrive at the Public Works Department between 8 and 8:30am for registration. The Great American Cleanup up will begin at 8:30am and last until 11:00am. Volunteers will be treated to a cook-out following the cleanup at the CE Weir Center.

“We are happy to offer these type of services to our citizens each year,” says Jacob Lott, Public Works Director. “In addition to cleaning up our neighborhoods, we are also saving our citizens money because we offer this service for free and citizens do not have to pay a landfill fee.”

In addition to the Great American Cleanup, Spring Junk Free Week will be held April 20 – 25, 2015, 8:00am-5:00pm and on Saturday, April 26, 8:30am-1:00pm. For citizens inside the city limits of Douglas, fees will be waived, during this one week, on big household and junk items. This will not apply to tires or hazardous chemicals. Items can be dropped off at the City of Douglas Pole Yard (off Pearl Avenue, behind the post office). A recycling bin will also be at this location for the convenience of dropping off recyclables. Citizens must provide a copy of their utility bill as residency proof.
