At 11:00 A.M. this morning the National Weather Service advised that Coffee County has been removed from the Winter Storm Warning. They advised that there is still a potential for black ice forming overnight due to the precipitation we have already received. The forecast for tonight is 26 degrees. There will be a hard freeze warning for Douglas/Coffee County until 9 A.M. tomorrow morning. By mid-morning tomorrow, between 10 and 11 A.M., the temperature should start rising to 46 degrees. Because of the hard freeze warning throughout the night until 9 A.M. tomorrow and the potential for icy conditions we ask those who decide to drive to use extra caution while traveling. There is still the potential for bridges, overpasses and low lying areas to ice over causing dangerous driving conditions. The potential is still prevalent for ice to form on trees which could cause limbs and trees to fall. This could also still cause for power outages.
Dr. Leis, Coffee County School Superintendent, has announced that school will be closed for students tomorrow, January 30, 2014, but faculty and staff need to report to work by 10:00 A.M.
We would like to thank the citizens of Douglas and Coffee County for their assistance in staying off the roadways. By listening to the warnings there have been 0 accidents or incidents in the City of Douglas and only 1 accident reported in Coffee County.
