The Douglas Mayor’s Youth Council (DMYC) held its monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at 6 PM at City Hall. Words of encouragement and prayer were offered by Rashad Thomas, Broxton Church of God. A special presentation was presented by Mr. Clarence Washington, Jr. Assistant Principal of Waycross Middle School.
The Youth Council Jr. Commissioner Jameson Cummings was recognized for this month’s Youth Council spotlight. Jameson is the son of James and LaCarol Cummings. He attends Coffee High School where he is in the eleventh grade. Jameson has attended the STEM Program at William Peace University in Raleigh, N.C.. He has tutored children at the Boys and Girls Club and has over 150 hours of community service. He is on track to graduate from Coffee High School as an Honor Graduate and plans to attend the University of Georgia.
The Youth Council chose Mayor Tony Paulk as the Outstanding Community Leader Spotlight for March. Mayor Paulk was recognized for his exemplanary service to the Douglas community and to our country while serving in the military, accomplishments as Mayor of the City of Douglas, and his outstanding leadership with youth in Douglas and Coffee County.
A special program was presented by Mr. Clarence Washington, Jr. the Assistant Principal at Waycross Middle School. Mr. Washington discussed life readiness skills and how to prepare for their future with the youth council. DMYC Coordinator, Dinitra Williams spoke briefly with the group about upcoming volunteer opportunities and activities with the Keep Douglas Beautiful Committee. She also stressed the need for youth to participate with the Teen Court Program.
The next Mayor’s Youth Council will be held on April 18, 2023, at 6 pm at City Hall. The public is invited to attend Youth Council meetings.
