The Douglas-Coffee County Planning Commission hosted training for Planning Committees of surrounding cities on Thursday, February 17, 2022 at the Central Square Complex Dogwood Meeting Room. The Southern Georgia Regional Commission (SGRC) conducted “Planning Commission 101” training for Douglas, Alma, and Nicholls.

“An active, focused planning commission is vital for growth of communities so we approached SGRC about conducting a training session in Douglas for our joint city-county committee,” says Georgia Henderson, Community Development Director. “When we reached out to SGRC, we found that other cities in our area also have a need for planning commission training.   We were happy to host the meeting and hope to have additional training in our area whenever possible.”

Committee members of Georgia Planning Commissions are required to attend training each year to stay up to date with current planning strategies and procedures for cities and counties. The two-hour training class conducted by Ms. Sherry Davidson (SGRC Local Government Services Director) included concepts such as the necessity, structures, and responsibilities of a planning commission.
