[ARCHIVED] CITY EXTENDS A PRECAUTIONARY CURFEW POST EFFECTS OF HURRICANE/TROPICAL STORM IRMA

An extended curfew is in effect for all of Coffee County, until 11:00am, Tuesday, September 12, 2017. This curfew included the cities of Douglas, Ambrose, Broxton, and Nicholls.

Although we have experience the worst of the storm, there are many areas throughout Coffee County that are not passable to motorist and is not safe for people to walk around", says Douglas City Manager, Terrell Jacobs.  "Our primary focus at this time is the safety of our residents, getting roadways cleared, and power restored.  Douglas, along with all areas of Coffee County, have suffered downed powerlines, trees, and traffic lights.  We ask that citizens abide by the curfew for their own personal safety.”

Emergency responders and public utility companies are working diligently to restore power and resume safe avenues for travel.  Until all obstructions have been removed from the public right-of-ways, there should be limited amount of traffic moving through Coffee County.  By not having great amounts of traffic out, public safety and utility personnel can freely move through the roadways to restore the community back to normality.

Douglas officials have a greater concern about the following areas, due to down power lines and other obstructions:

  • Touchton Drive
  • West Forest/ Bo Jo Ella
  • McDonald Avenue
  • Martin Luther King Drive
  • Mingledorf Drive
  • Tanner Street
  • Peachtree Street

Some Minit Marts have re-opened to the public.  Officials understand that some people need gas and other essential supplies, especially those who have to go back to work.  But at the same time, City Leaders are requesting that if you must go out, that you limit your time driving around Douglas until the curfew has expired.

If you are still experiencing power outages in your area, please call the City of Douglas Customer Care Center by dialing 3-1-1 or 384-3302.
