The City of Douglas and Transwaste/Waste Industries would like citizens to participate in programs that are offered for the disposal of brown/white goods. Citizens can schedule pickup of the brown/white goods through Tanswaste or participate in the monthly Community Junk Drop-Off Day.
Brown/white goods pickup should be scheduled through Transwaste. Citizens should call on Wednesday to schedule pickup. No businesses and no landlords are allowed to schedule brown/white good pickup. The brown/white items should not be placed near the curb for pickup until an appointment has been made with Transwaste. Acceptable brown/white goods are: furniture, washing machines, refrigerators, dryers, stoves, microwaves, television, etc. All freon/chemical should be drained from appliances when placed for pickup. If you are not sure if your item is a brown/white good, please call Transwaste at 912-384-6001 and they will be able to assist you.
Citizens are also urged to participate in monthly Community Junk Drop-Off Days. On Junk Drop off days, a dumpster will be placed in an area of Douglas to offer residents a way to dispose of large, non-hazardous items and electronic items at no cost. Acceptable brown and white good items include furniture, washing machines, refrigerators, dryers, stoves, microwaves, television, etc. This does not apply to hazardous chemicals such as paints/solvents, household cleaners, pesticides/herbicides, motor oil, antifreeze, batteries, or tires. All freon/chemicals should be drained from the appliance. Proof of residency is required to drop off items at the designated location. This is for households in the City of Douglas. Please NO business or commercial dumping. The next Junk Drop Off Day will be on Saturday, February 20, 8am -12Noon, at Wheeler Park.
