The Douglas Fire Department is now in the process of painting and maintaining all hydrants in the City of Douglas. NFPA standards call for all public fire hydrants to be maintained on a regular basis. Servicing hydrants yearly will extend the life of the hydrants. The hydrants are cleared of brush so that they are clearly visible and appropriately color coded by the gallons per minute. All hydrants are tagged with an identification number. Keeping hydrants in an approved condition ensures reliable fire suppression capabilities in case of an emergency. In conjunction with servicing hydrants, required testing and maintenance will keep our ISO rating of a three, this allows our citizens to enjoy lower home owner insurance policy rates. Chief Tim White would like to thank our citizens for their cooperation.
