In 2008, the City of Douglas imposed a moratorium on commercial leaf and limb drop off at the compost site due to the high cost of grinding and a lack of demand of grindings for the composting process. In recent months, the City has experienced an increase in commercial requests for leaf and limb drop off.
“We recently installed truck scales and a burn box allowing for disposal of excess leaf and limb in a cost effective manner,” says Michael Hudson, Natural Gas/Water/Wastewater Director.
The installation of the truck scales and burn box will allow the City to lift the moratorium and once again offer commercial leaf and limb drop off at the compost site. There will be a fee of $50 per ton to be billed, in tenths of a ton, for all commercial leaf and limb dropped off at the Compost Site. This fee is comparable to the fee that Transwaste charges at the landfill.
