Comprehensive planning is key to building sustainable, resilient, and vibrant communities. The Joint Comprehensive Plan for Coffee County, which includes the cities of Ambrose, Broxton, Douglas, and Nicholls, provides a strategic framework to guide long-term growth and development across the region.

Required by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, the Joint Comprehensive Plan is revised every five years to ensure alignment with state standards and community needs. The latest update, completed in September 2023, outlines goals and objectives for the City of Douglas and its neighboring municipalities. It addresses critical topics such as transportation, population trends, housing, land use, economic development, natural and historic resources, and community facilities. The next scheduled update will occur in 2028.

“This plan is more than a requirement—it’s a roadmap for the future,” said City Manager Charles Davis. “It reflects our commitment to creating communities that thrive for generations to come.”

Residents and stakeholders are encouraged to review the full plan and learn more about future initiatives. Copies are available at the Community Development Department’s Planner Office at City Hall (302 S. Madison Avenue) or online at https://www.cityofdouglasga.gov/234/Planning-and-Zoning-Division.
