Animal Control Officer of the Year 2023 (4)

The Georgia Animal Control Association (GACA) recognizes individuals each year who have made outstanding contributions to animal welfare. This year, Tim Gay, the Animal Control Officer for the City of Douglas, was honored as the GACA Georgia Animal Control Officer of the Year.

“Tim’s active involvement in caring for animals and volunteering for animal rescues across Georgia underscores his deep care for animals,” says Georgia Henderson, Community Development Director. “His commitment to the safety and well-being of both the community and its animal population is unwavering and he is very deserving of this award.”

Tim has been working as the Animal Control Officer for the City of Douglas since 2018. In 2023, he responded to a total of 1,165 animal control calls, out of which 51 required his attention after working hours. Tim is an active volunteer in animal rescue efforts throughout Georgia and strives to promote a peaceful coexistence between the community and animals.

According to their website, the GACA Animal Control Officer of the Year award is given to an individual who has demonstrated exceptional dedication, compassion, and hard work in protecting the well-being of animals. The award acknowledges outstanding practices in animal handling, education, and community engagement, setting a high standard for others in the field and encouraging greater empathy and responsibility towards animal care.
