[ARCHIVED] PUBLIC INVITED TO FREE MOVIE: “GOD IS MY CO-PILOT”

The public is invited to a free viewing of the Warner Brothers classic film, “God is my Co-pilot.” In honor of the return of the cadets from the 63rd Army-Air Forces Flight Training Detachment, the 63rd Preservation Society and City of Douglas Tourism will be showing the film at the Martin Centre on Tuesday, October 16 at 7:00pm. The World War II vets will be returning to Douglas for their reunion, October 14 – 19, 2012.

Released in 1945 by Warner Brothers, the film is based on the autobiography God Is My Co-Pilot by fighter pilot Col. Robert Lee Scott Jr. (Dennis Morgan), who fought in the Pacific during World War II. The film tells the story of Scott's association with the Flying Tigers and the United States Army Air Forces in China and Burma during World War II. Scott was considered too old to fly in combat, but he volunteered for a secret bombing raid from the Philippines against the Japanese capital of Tokyo. When the mission is cancelled after he arrives in India, Scott flies transport aircraft over The Hump into China.

Popcorn and drinks will be sold to raise funds for the 63rd WWII Flight Training Museum.
