Have you ever wondered what goes on during the day at City Hall or how the City of Douglas operates? If so, here’s your chance to have a learning experience while taking an in-depth look at how city departments function and what the departments are responsible for each day. The City of Douglas is currently taking applications for the second Douglas 101 Citizens’ Academy Program.
“We are looking for individuals who want to take a more active role in the community,” says Terrell Jacobs, City Manager. “The first class was a success and we are excited as new individuals are signing up for this 8-10 week session. This is a fun, positive way for Citizens to have a hands-on, interactive, learning experience with various departments within the City of Douglas.”
Program topics will range from elected officials to public safety to community development with all City departments being discussed. Class dates and times will be determined once enough participants sign up. There will be on-site visits to some of the departments and participants are asked to attend one City Commission meeting and one Volunteer Committee meeting. Participants must be at least 18 years of age or older.
