[ARCHIVED] WATER DEPARTMENT WELL #2 MALFUNCTIONS CAUSING DISCOLORED WATER

Photo of City of Douglas Water Well

During routine maintenance, the City of Douglas Water Department’s Well 2 on Pearl Avenue experienced a malfunction on Thursday, March 11, 2021.  This malfunction has created a pressure change throughout the water system in Douglas.  As a result, the other 3 Wells in Douglas are compensating for the loss of Well #2.   Due to the other three wells in Douglas compensating for the loss of Well #2, there is a change in the normal water flow.  This change has caused discolored water in areas of Douglas.

Water Department crews are working to repair Well #2 as quickly as possible, however should citizens who experience rusty or brown colored water should allow faucets to run until the water runs clear.  This will clear the line of any rust that might have dislodged from the pipes.  Before washing clothes or cooking, please let the water run clear before using it.

If there are questions or concerns, please call the City of Douglas Water Department at 912-389-3444.
